Oh, hi! I'm so happy that you are here!
My name is Seraina (first name Florina) and I do all the writing, recipe development & food photography here at Earthling Seraina! I'm also your greatest ally when it comes to healthy & delicious food, cruelty-free beauty tips, and ethical lifestyle choices.
From healthy plant-based recipes, wellness tips, cruelty-free vegan beauty products, and zero-waste lifestyle tips, Earthling Seraina focuses on providing you with all the knowledge that you might seek to improve your health, your body, and your relationship with Mother Earth.
Behind the blog
I created this blog to share my health journey following a mostly plant-based vegan diet. You can expect to find here everything from nourishing easily to follow plant-based recipes to more indulgent "veganized" types of recipes so you'll never feel like you are missing out. This way of eating is both satisfying and kind to your body and the planet. Pinky promise! Now that I'm studying for my health coach certificate, expect to find more wellness articles, meal plans, diet advice and so much more!
an inhabitant of the earth
I came up with the name Earthling Seraina as earthling means an inhabitant of the earth, and we all are inhabitants of the earth. We (humans) animals and nature coexist on this planet. That's why I believe we should work as one, never take more than we need and be kind to the planet that keeps as well & alive. I give a lot of tips throughout the posts about living a more sustainable lifestyle, which applies to the food we eat, products, and ways of living.
• good vibes • good food • great health •
I'm really passionate about food and creating tasty & nutritious easy to follow recipes, but the food isn’t my only passion. Yes is true that nutrition is the core of health but what we put ON our body is equally as important as what we put IN our body.
From body creams to shampoos and makeup products there's chemicals and additives in almost everything we use on our skin every day. Not to mention the cruelty behind these products.
One of the missions that I have with this blog is to guide you to choose the best products for your body, both cruelty-free & junk free! I try and test them so you won't have to!
What recipes you'll find on Earthling Seraina
All the recipes here are 110% vegan and they will always be. They are either low carb vegan, whole-foods vegan, and even raw vegan + the occasionally veganized old favorite. I try to keep all my recipes as simple as possible by using every-day, easy to find ingredients. I also want to help you be a better cook that's why you'll find plenty of helpful how to's of different cooking techniques and ingredients.
The recipes are mostly whole foods non-processed ingredients based, BUT food should also be fun and enjoyable without restrictions. That being said I believe in a balance between having an active lifestyle and a big glass of green smoothie and occasionally devouring 1 box of donuts while binge-watching Netflix. Believe me, I do both!
Earthling Seraina reflects my beliefs on eating in a healthy and more sustainable way. I strongly believe that what we eat plays a huge role in our overall health. And it's all about making healthy cooking both quick & easy!
♡♡♡ HOWEVER, I don't want you to think that being vegan is an "all or nothing" approach. If you do the best you can and but still keep eating eggs, or honey from time to time for example. It's totally OK! Nobody's perfect and I'm not perfect either. It's all about striving to do better. ♡♡♡
My Food Philosophy
As a soon to be certified health coach I have a huge passion for nutrition, health, and helping others to achieve their dream body/health goals. I believe that there's no one perfect diet that fits everybody. Either you are vegan or not you can still eat in a way that is most beneficial for you, your body, and the environment.
That's why here you'll find many different kinds of recipes (always vegan though) because some of you might thrive on a low carb diet and some might want a holistic approach to the food you are eating. Almost all of my recipes are either allergens friendly or have substitutions in the notes.
It's all about doing what is best for you. If you feel like you can't go vegan because you'll miss XYZ then do it but keep eating XYZ. It's all about improvement, NOT about being perfect 100% of the time (I'm certainly not).
I rather live in a world where everybody eats 90% vegan and not in a world where a minority eats 100% vegan.
> What did you do before Earthling Seraina
Before I was working as a waitress in an Italian Bistro (super long hours), minimum wage, etc. My dream was one day to become a cabin crew with Emirates. In December 2019 I quit my job after 6 years, came to Dubai to pursue my dream. Due to the pandemic, this wasn't going to happen. So then I took my second passion which is food + photography and that's how Earthling Seraina was born. I learned how to take nice food pictures, how to build a website & how to make this crazy idea a full-time income. And guess what? It worked! Every day I pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming!
> Are you vegan?
I eat primarily a whole foods plant-based diet. I've tried every diet out there but this is what works best for me & I love how it makes me feel. Coming from a plethora of eating disorders I found that this way of eating it's the best for ME.
I'm not 100% strict, and I don't like to put a label on. I'm a big foodie! I allow myself to try different cuisines while traveling (never meat because I honestly don't like it), I still eat close to 100% vegan all the time, especially when there's availability & I love going to vegan restaurants. I'm also a food photographer and beside my vegan blog, I cook and shoot many types of ingredients and recipes.
Vegan food is always my choice when is available. I don't stress too much about it. And if (very rarely) I eat something that's not vegan I make sure that they are sustainable, unprocessed products.
However, I'm very strict with cruelty-free makeup/body-care products, never buy leather or wool or take part in any activity that involves animal cruelty (like circuses & zoos).
> Do you develop/photograph all these recipes?
Hell yeah, I do! And I love every second of it. The kitchen is my happy place and my camera is my best friend. Not only I cook + shoot all this yummy food for my blog, but I also develop & photograph amazing recipes for other fellow bloggers/brands. (if you are interested, don't hesitate to contact me). I'm continuously learning how to be a better cook and photographer, it's a never-ending journey/learning experience.
> Do you have any background in cooking?
I'm a self-taught cook. I love food so much that I had to (just kidding). I learned a lot through actually getting in the kitchen and cooking but I also learned through online cooking courses and workshops. And in my free time, I devour cookbooks and food blogs #foodbloggerlife.
However, I believe that everyone should know how to cook simple, healthy meals. You don't have to be Gordon Ramsay to prepare a tasty meal for yourself or your family. It's healthier, cheaper and it doesn't have to be time-consuming if you do it right! No excuses.
When I'm not blogging...
When I'm not busy blogging, cooking, or shooting food, you can find me working out, studying for my health coach degree, reading cookbooks & books (always non-fiction), and improving my food photography.
